Annual Respect For Law Event

In July 1965, a discussion between Optimist Past International President Carl Bowen and the former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover resulted in the birth of the Optimist international Respect For Law program that now involves over 1500 clubs each year.

Our program, honoring you local law enforcement, has become the keystone and longest running event for the Roseburg Optimist Club for 47 years.

Optimist Essay & Oratorical Contests

Our club sponsors two contests for students to earn money to pursue opportunities in higher education: the Essay Contest and the Oratorical Contest. The contests are conducted at the Club level, then Zone and Regional (if necessary) and at the District level. District-level scholarships are funded by the Optimist International Foundations and awarded by Optimist International.
